About theInternational Baccalaureate program

The InternationalBaccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is one of the most popular universityentrance programs recognized throughout the world. Of schools offering theprogram about half are publicly funded and half are private.

IB国际文凭课程是全世界非常受欢迎的进入大学入学的课程体系，就像中国的高考，美国的SAT。而且，IB课程体系对能够提供IB课程的高中要求很高，在高中林立的大多伦多地区，只有为数不多的高中可以提供IB课程。

If you are enrolled in an International Baccalaureate program inCanada, some courses are recognized as equivalent to university courses.Universities in Canada and the US may award first year credit for courses inthe program.

如果你在加拿大就读IB国际文凭课程，IB的一些课程可以等同于大学的一些课程。加拿大或者美国的一些大学会认可一部分IB的课程作为大学学分。

InternationalBaccalaureate Programs curriculum

The IB programcurriculum consists of study in six subject areas, an essay of up to 4,000words and at least 50 hours in each area of Creative, Action and Servicerequirements. Theory of Knowledge is one other important component of the IBcurriculum.

IB国际文凭课程包含了六大学科领域，一篇4000词的论文和50小时的创造性的类似社区服务类的要求。“知识论”是IB国际文凭课程体系里非常重要的组成部分。

AP Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) classes arechallenging, college-level classes that students can take while still in highschool. Schools typically offer AP classes to high-achieving students thatqualify for a more advanced level of work in a specific subject. AP exams comeat the end of the year and are graded by a panel of experts in the particularsubject.

AP课程一般会在高中的最后一年提供给学生，大家十一年级学到的AP课程属于Pre-AP。AP课程普遍会比高中课程要难度大很多，与IB相比较来说，可以自己选择哪些课程读AP，哪些课程读普通课程，相对来说比较灵活。

College Credit

The original aim of the AP program was to give students“advanced placement” in college in certain academic areas. And this is stillone of the benefits of the program.

For example, if you “test out” of your college’s languagerequirement by scoring a 4 or 5 on the Spanish Language AP exam, you won’t needto spend your time in college meeting that requirement. You’ll be free to usethat academic time elsewhere. Or, if you decide to pursue the field of Spanishin college, you’ll be able to begin your studies at a more advanced level.

和IB类似，AP的课程学分也会被部分加拿大，美国大学认可，AP课程结束后，会参加一个AP课程的专属考试，五分为最高分，很多大学一般会认可4/5分的成绩，比如如果你拿到西班牙语这门课的AP课程，拿到了5分的分数，也许一些大学可以认可这门学分作为大学的一门学分。

Ontario Curriculum 安大略省教育体系

这个体系对于安大略省的高中生来说并不陌生，毕业有三大要求

l  30个学分修满（18个必修，12个选修）

l  Ontario Literacy Test（十年级英语统考）

l  40 Community Service Hour（四十小时义工服务）

一般从学分角度来说，初三毕业的学生可以转过来八个学分，高一的学生可以转16个学分，高二的学生可以转22个学分，高三的学生可以转24个学分。

在申请大学的时候，大学看的是Top 6的是二年级课程的平均分，那么在安大略省体系里面，分为U，M和O的课程，难度逐层递减。一般大学要看的都是U/M的课程，一些大学会要求至少三门/四门U的课程。

升学规划师建议：

对于来加拿大高中学习至少三年的学生，如果学习成绩较好，可以考虑IB的课程，因为IB课程在如上三个课程体系里难度最大，含金量最高，世界范围内认可率更高。如果来这边时间较短的学生，（因为IB要求至少两年），所以如果学习成绩很优异，可以考虑多修一些AP的课程，对于大学的学习一方面是一个准备（大学的上课速度是高中的很多倍），另一方面也可以有机会转为大学的学分，省掉一部分学费。
